The Mindset for Great Success

Think about all the times that you accomplished something in your life. What was your common attitude in all those cases? I am going to examine the most important mindset that leads to great success in any aspect of your life.

When you ask people about the greatest success mindset, there’s one quality that stands out in their answers…

That’s happy-go-lucky. As if when you are happily hanging around, you will end up being lucky as well. There’s some truth to that, but not the way that most people believe. A lot of people think being happy-go-lucky means hanging around and doing nothing… Far from it!

The true success mindset is not about doing nothing. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. It’s about doing all you can do in reaching your goals. The happy-go-lucky attitude is about your attachment to the results or lack there of.

One Mindset to Rule them All

I am going to break up the mentality that people have into 3 categories. It’s only one of them that results in great success:

Type 1:

This is the mindset of people who have mistaken the happy-go-lucky attitude with being a bum or high. They are the pollyannas who think that mere positive attitude and optimism are enough for success. They think that all they have to do is to sit around and foster happy thoughts, and the universe will deliver great things to their doorsteps in silver platter.

Type 2:

This is the mindset of people who exert great force in reaching their goals and emotionally invest in the results. People of this type usually accomplish their goals, because they take practical steps to identify, learn, and implement what’s needed to get to their goals. But their success is often limited and comes at a great cost.

The path to success is never a straight line. There are so many setbacks along the way. And since people of this type have emotionally invested in the results, they suffer greatly along the path. Their success comes with a huge and painful struggle. They put themselves through so much stress that after few accomplishments they just want to retire and stop. So they never go for bigger and higher goals.

Type 3:

This mindset is the one that leads to great success. This one is the mindset of people who are positive like the Type 1 and put in a lot of effort like Type 2, but they are never attached to the results. So they are completely immune to setbacks. They never get stressed because they have not invested in the results emotionally.

This is the most powerful position to be in.

The Source of the Success mindset

You may ask: what is the true source of such a zen-like detachment?

The true source of this powerful attitude is self-esteem. Let me explain…

Self-esteem is the measure of your worthiness. It’s a measure of how much you value yourself regardless of anything out there in the world.

People of type 2 attach their value and worth to the results of their efforts. If they fail, they feel worthless. The people of type 3, on the other hand, have a great self-esteem and don’t tie in their worth as an individual to their accomplishments. They put all their effort in, but since they don’t care about the outcome, setbacks don’t bother them one bit. No matter what happens, it does not affect how they value and respect themselves.

Summary

Great success comes when you put in great effort without attachment to the results. Ancient philosophies call it Zen-like detachment. Modern psychologists call it healthy self-esteem. No matter the name, that’s the true meaning of the happy-go-lucky.
